With so many aftermarket companies out there claiming high quality
parts and low prices, it is sometimes hard to recognize which ones are legit, and which ones are just trying to make a quick
buck. I’m a very skeptical person and when I see something that is too good to be true, I usually just figure
it’s a “get what you pay for” situation. But building and racing pitbikes can get very expensive,
so I’m often attracted to products offering to save me a couple bucks while adding performance. That’s how
I found a company called Brand X Minis; they are just that, offering quality products at a reasonable price.
After some research, I picked up a Brand X Minis hydraulic clutch kit.
The kit includes: Magura master cylinder, stainless brake line, clutch removal spacer, and all necessary hardware to convert
an auto clutch to full manual. All that is needed to complete the install is a bottle of brake fluid and some standard
issue hand tools. The included directions are little confusing, but with a little common sense, installation is fairly
self explanatory. Make sure you get the
banjo bolt tight, an impact wrench is handy in this situation since there is no way to keep the cylinder from spinning. The bleeding process is time consuming; better directions would
have made it go a little smoother. After we got all the air out of the system it was time to ride.
Riding with the hydraulic clutch is effortless, very easy to pull.
I was concerned about the “feel” with the hydro, but after a couple quick laps around the yard, that was no longer
an issue. I only have a couple hours on the new set-up, but so far I have had no complaints.
I see no reason to spend over $300 for a hydraulic clutch from the
big name companies. Brand X minis uses the same master cylinder, stainless line and high quality components; they just
need to work on their instructions. For the price you can’t beat it.
I will post an update in a few weeks, after I get some more hours on
it.
